VII.D Renormalization Group for the Coulomb Gas

چکیده

To construct an RG for the Coulomb gas, note that the partition for the system, eq.(VII.59), involves two parameters, (K, y0), and has an implicit cutoff, a, related to the minimum separation between vortices. As discussed earlier, the distinction between regions inside and outside the core of a vortex are arbitrary. Increasing the core size to ba modifies not only the core energy, hence y0, but also the interaction parameter K. The latter is a consequence of change in the dielectric properties of the medium due to dipoles of separations between a and ba. The change in fugacity is obtained from eq.(VII.46) by changing a to ba as ỹ0(ba) = b y0(a) . (VII.68)

Kosterlitz-Thouless Transition Line for the Two Dimensional Coulomb Gas

With a renormalization group approach, we study the pressure of the two dimensional Coulomb Gas along a small piece of the Kosterlitz-Thouless transition line, i.e. the boundary of the dipole region in the activity-temperature phase-space.

Electromagnetic Coulomb Gas with Vector Charges and “Elastic” Potentials : Renormalization Group Equations

We present a detailed derivation of the renormalization group equations for two dimensional electromagnetic Coulomb gases whose charges lie on a triangular lattice (magnetic charges) and its dual (electric charges). The interactions between the charges involve both angular couplings and a new electromagnetic potential. This motivates the denomination of “elastic” Coulomb gas. Such elastic Coulo...

The renormalization group (RG) flow for the two-dimensional sine-Gordon model is determined by means of Polchinski's RG equation at next-to-leading order in the derivative expansion. In this work we have two different goals, (i) to consider the renormalization scheme-dependence of Polchinski's method by matching Polchinski's equation with the Wegner-Houghton equation and with the real space RG ...

Renormalization of modular invariant Coulomb gas and Sine-Gordon theories, and quantum Hall flow diagram

Using the renormalisation group (RG) we study two dimensional electromagnetic coulomb gas and extended Sine-Gordon theories invariant under the modular group SL(2, Z). The flow diagram is established from the scaling equations, and we derive the critical behaviour at the various transition points of the diagram. Following proposal for a SL(2, Z) duality between different quantum Hall fluids, we...

Sine-Gordon field theory for the Kosterlitz-Thouless transitions on fluctuating membranes.

In the preceding paper, we derived Coulomb-gas and sine-Gordon Hamiltonians to describe the Kosterlitz-Thouless transition on a fluctuating surface. These Hamiltonians contain couplings to Gaussian curvature not found in a rigid flat surface. In this paper, we derive renormalization-group recursion relations for the sine-Gordon model using field-theoretic techniques developed to study flat spac...
